MANCHESTER, England (REUTERS) - Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will travel with the rest of their squad for their FA Cup semi-final against Brighton and Hove Albion having nearly recovered from a hamstring injury, manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday (April 5).
The Argentina international, who is the Premier League's top scorer with 19 goals, missed City's 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Cardiff City on Wednesday and was a doubt for Saturday's semi-final at Wembley.
"Almost everybody is fit," Guardiola told a news conference.
"Sergio Aguero is almost fit. He is travelling."
City are challenging on all fronts this season and could potentially win three more trophies before the campaign ends, having already lifted the League Cup.
The team are top of the league going into the weekend's games and have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League as well as the FA Cup semis and Guardiola believes they are poised to build a lasting legacy.
"We are still young in terms of a lot of titles but every season when you are able to win you become a better club, a better organisation, so that's the target," the Spaniard added.
"We can't deny the last decade in terms of English titles and being there in the Champions League, qualifying always, so it's really good. We came from nothing with that, now we have that, we'll see how far we're going to get."
Stand-in left back Oleksandr Zinchenko has a hamstring injury and Guardiola is ready to draft Benjamin Mendy, who has been recovering from a knee injury, into the side for the first time Jan. 23 as a result.
"Everybody has to help us, not just Mendy," the manager added.

Football: Spain court acquits former Barcelona club president and five others of money laundering

MADRID (AFP) - A Spanish court on Wednesday (April 24) acquitted former Barcelona club president Sandro Rosell, who spent nearly two years in pre-trial custody, of money laundering.
Rosell, his wife and four others, were accused of "large-scale money laundering" of close to €20 million (S$30.5 million) since 2006, relating to television rights and sponsorship deals in Brazil.
The National Court, which handles major criminal cases, said it had acquitted all six accused because "after evaluating the evidence presented during the trial, the accusations were not proven".
"As such, given the doubts that were raised, the principle of in dubio pro reo must apply," said the court, using the Latin phrase for "when in doubt favour the accused", referring to the presumption of innocence.
Prosecutors at the Madrid-based court had called for the ex-Barca boss, who was held in pre-trial between May 2017 and February 2019, to be jailed for six years.
The Rosells were accused of hiding money illegally obtained by Ricardo Teixeira, the former head of the Brazilian Football Confederation.
The case centres on a deal signed by Teixeira in 2006 with a company based in the Cayman Islands for the television rights to 24 Brazil friendly matches.
Altogether, Rosell and his wife allegedly received close to €15 million in their accounts as part of the deal.
They pocketed €6.6 million with €8.4 million destined for Teixeira, prosecutors say.
Rosell, 55, had previously lived and worked in Brazil, where he forged business links.
Teixeira has been indicted by US Justice Department prosecutors investigating the Fifa corruption scandal.
Rosell is also suspected of having received some €5 million illicitly as part of Nike's sponsorship deal with the Brazilian team.
He resigned as Barcelona president in 2014 over murky transfer dealings that brought Brazilian striker Neymar to the club from Santos.
Rosell is waiting to be tried in another case for corruption, fraud and tax evasion related to Neymar's transfer to the Catalan giants in 2013.
Neymar moved to Paris St-Germain for a world-record €222 million in 2017.

Norwich and Sheffield promoted to EPL

Norwich and Sheffield promoted to EPL
LONDON • Norwich have been a perennial yo-yo club, with three promotions to and two relegations from the Premier League in the past decade.
But, having regained their top-flight status after a three-year absence with a 2-1 win at home to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, they "are ready for the Prem" and intend to stay there this time.
Victory left the Championship leaders - who recorded just one win from their opening six games - nine points clear of third-placed Leeds and secured a top-two place.
The Canaries kicked off at Carrow Road knowing just a point would be enough to secure promotion, and long-range strikes from German midfielder Marco Stiepermann and Bosnia striker Mario Vrancic were enough to see off their opponents, who pulled one back through Lewis Travis.
Afterwards, Northern Ireland defender Jamal Lewis hailed the work done by German manager Daniel Farke, who left his position as the coach of Borussia Dortmund's reserves to take over in May 2017, telling Sky Sports: "He puts his faith in us. Our team is so young but so hungry. It's been an amazing season. It's a moment I'll never forget."
Pundit Chris Sutton agreed, praising the achievement as one of their "greatest ever seasons".
The former club striker told BBC Sport: "I normally associate teams coming up from the Championship with real grit and resolve. Norwich... have played some really good stuff."
The title is still up for grabs and the competition's top scorer Teemu Pukki (28 goals), said that was the team's aim ahead of their final league game at Aston Villa on Sunday. He said: "It (promotion) means a lot... (but) we want to finish the season with a victory."
Norwich are three points ahead of second-placed Sheffield United, who beat already relegated Ipswich 2-0, and were also promoted yesterday after Leeds' 1-1 draw with Villa.
Marcelo Bielsa's team now head for the play-offs, with the winners securing the final promotion place.

Football: Smalling signs new deal with Manchester United

LONDON (REUTERS) - England international Chris Smalling has agreed a new contract with Manchester United until 2022 with an option for the club to extend for a further year, the Premier League outfit announced on Saturday (Dec 15).
The 29-year-old centre half, who has made more than 300 appearances for United since joining from Fulham in 2010, penned the deal ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool.
He told the United official website: "It's a great feeling to know the manager and the club back me, I'm looking forward to repaying them!
"This is my ninth season with the club and I am delighted to be continuing my progression with this team.
"It is a real honour to play for Manchester United and we are all now concentrating on the busy schedule of games throughout the festive period," added Smalling, who has made 18 appearances for the club this season.
United manager Jose Mourinho said: "I am very happy Chris has signed a new contract. Chris has been with the club for a number of years and is now one of the senior players within our squad."

Football: Chelsea boss Sarri, under fire after limp loss to Manchester United, doesn't fear the sack

LONDON (AFP) - Maurizio Sarri insists he isn't worried about being sacked as Chelsea manager despite his troubled side's lacklustre FA Cup surrender against Manchester United.
The Italian faces a fight to save his job after FA Cup holders Chelsea crashed to a 2-0 fifth-round defeat at Stamford Bridge on Monday (Feb 18).
Ander Herrera headed United into the lead from Paul Pogba's cross in the 31st minute.
France star Pogba doubled United's advantage on the stroke of half-time when he met Marcus Rashford's cross with a diving header.
Sarri endured chants of "You don't know what you're doing" and "You're getting sacked in the morning" as furious Chelsea fans showed their frustration at the club's fifth defeat in their last 10 games.
Chelsea's stars, publicly criticised by their manager on several occasions this term, hardly looked to be battling to keep the Italian as they failed to muster a shot on target after the 11th minute.
Sarri's fragile relationship with his players, combined with the mutinous atmosphere among supporters, increased the feeling that the former Napoli boss might not survive until the end of his first season with Chelsea.
Demanding Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has acted quickly in the past when managers have been perceived to have lost the support of the squad.
But Sarri is adamant he isn't concerned about his perilous position and he claimed he is solely focused on salvaging his club's turbulent season.
Asked if he was worried Abramovich might be ready to wield the axe, Sarri said: "It's not my problem.

"I was only worried about my position when I was in League 2 in Italy, not now.
"I am worried about the results, not about the fans. Of course I can understand the situation.
"I can understand our fans, because the result wasn't really good. We are out of the FA Cup."
Chelsea supporters called for their club's former legend Frank Lampard, now in charge at Derby, to be hired and directed foul-mouthed abuse at Sarri, who suffered chants of "F*** Sarri-ball" in a scathing reference to his failing tactics.
"Not really very well, but sometimes yes. For everything there is the first time," he said when quizzed on whether he had heard the taunts from his own fans.
Sarri believes his situation will be improved significantly if Chelsea can string together a winning run, starting with the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie against Malmo on Thursday and the League Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday.
"It's really very easy. If we are able to win three or four matches in a row, it will be easy. Of course it's difficult to win five matches in a row," he said with a curious smirk that suggested he didn't really believe his own outward optimism.
"We need of course more aggression, more determination in the situation inside our box and inside the opposing box.
"My job is to work with my players to try and improve in a few days because we conceded the second goal without determination or aggression.
"The difference was there. We played 78 balls in the opposing box and United only 16 balls our box. We are supposed to win."

Football: Yoshida-san, restore the Lions' semangat, boleh?

Football: Yoshida-san, restore the Lions' semangat, boleh?

SINGAPORE - Dear Yoshida-san, welcome to Singapore.
Having taken up arguably the hottest seat in Singapore sport, I hope you know what you are in for with your first international assignment.
Your credentials have already been questioned and your command of English criticised but you can still prove them wrong.
I actually admire and appreciate how you were game enough to field questions in a foreign language at Thursday's press conference, even though you had a translator.
In any case, our most successful ringmaster ever was a chain-smoking Serb Radojko Avramovic who sometimes left people guessing what he just said with his gruff and mumbly diction.
He affectionately called Singapore fans "five million coaches", as there is no lack of persons, qualified or not, with an opinion of what the national coach should or should not do. Yet, Raddy delivered three Asean titles. So, ignore the haters and let your football (coaching) do the talking.
Like you said, communication will be key. And knowing English, and consequently Singlish, is not your first language, may I take the liberty to introduce you to some key words in our football lexicon.

There was a time when our Lions roared on the regional stage. But after three straight group-stage eliminations from the AFF Suzuki Cup, we have been reduced to whimpering pussycats of late.
We are looking to you to restore the semangat - which is similar to the Japanese concepts of seishin and tamashii - and revive the energy and enthusiasm, soul and spirit in the team.
You will have ideas about how Singapore football could improve, perhaps through the use of technology for example, but you may meet with a response that has frustrated previous coaches.
It is essentially known as money no enough.
Sport in Singapore generally does not enjoy as much corporate financial support as it does in your country. Vissel Kobe midfielder Andres Iniesta's $38.5 million annual salary tops the Football Association of Singapore's budget, for about four years. And football is the most well-funded sport here.
As a result, you will learn to make a little go a long way. And that applies to human resources too.
Ideally, you will have your best players at every Fifa international window, but next week, you will already miss having two of the nation's top young players - Irfan and Ikhsan Fandi - for the international friendlies against Solomon Islands and Myanmar.
They will play in the U-22 Merlion Cup instead. The situation may well be replicated during the subsequent Nov 11-19 window, when the duo is likely to play in the SEA Games, another U-22 tournament.
The SEA Games gold, which Singapore have never won, is prized by local sports authorities, who rightly or wrongly, sometimes place more importance on than the national team's endeavours.
It results in a biennial tussle for players. At least three players could not join the Lions for that memorable 0-0 World Cup qualifying draw in Japan because they had to stay with the SEA Games team in 2015.
But this is just how things are in Singapore - different people express patriotism in different ways.
One of them is national service, in which all Singaporean males have to be conscripted for around two years. This includes your talent pool, who may not be able to train and play regularly.
Agreeing to the initial two-year contract means you are essentially saying boleh, that you can deal with all these constraints and challenges and try and establish for the Lions a football identity that has been missing for years.
Given adequate time and support, I hope you will realise and internalise the spirit of our national anthem Majulah Singapura, which means "Onward Singapore".
You have astutely asked for unity among administrators, coaches, players, and Singaporeans in general. Hopefully, these various stakeholders can live up to the lyrics "Marilah kita bersatu/dengan semangat yang baru" which translates into "Come, let us unite with a new spirit", as we usher in a new football era under your reign.
Good luck and ganbatte.

FRANKFURT, Germany (REUTERS) - Eintracht Frankfurt beat Benfica 2-0 on Thursday (April 18) to overturn a 4-2 first leg deficit and advance to the Europa League last four on the away goal rule for their first European semi-final appearance in 39 years.
Goals from Filip Kostic and Sebastian Rode were enough to put them through and they will next face Chelsea, who beat Slavia Prague.
Eintracht, German Cup winners last season, reached their first semi-final in a European competition since winning the UEFA Cup back in 1980 by punishing their opponents' passive approach.
The Portuguese, finalists in 2013 and 2014, were largely toothless, content to sit back and soak up the pressure but with little to show for up front until after Eintracht's second goal in the 67th minute.
"The whole team did it great and it was not easy," said match winner Rode.
"We promised ourselves to come out fighting and to soak up the atmosphere. The fans pushed us. We are delighted to have advanced."
Benfica initially did well to keep Frankfurt's attack at bay.
They could do nothing though when unmarked Filip Kostic fired in on the rebound after Mijat Gacinovic's effort bounced off the post in the 37th.
The German club, one of four former winners of the trophy in this season's quarter-finals, along with Chelsea, Napoli and Valencia, needed only one more goal to advance to the last four.
However, it was Benfica's first leg hat-trick hero Joao Felix who came close in the 48th minute. He shook off two markers, cut back into the box from the left but his effort was deflected narrowly wide by Frankfurt defender Simon Falette.
That was to be the visitors' only real chance and Rode settled the tie for the hosts when he drilled in from the edge of the box.
Benfica hit the post in the 85th but could not find the goal that would send them through.
